Welcome to the Takemusu Aikido Amsterdam Dojo.
Our Dojo began in May 2007 at First Floor Fitness located at the Boelelaan Buitenveldert in Amsterdam. On 1 October 2008 the Dojo moved to the gym of the Multi Functional Centre 't Binnenhof across the mall Gelderlandplein. Our members are from Holland and abroad so the instruction are both in Dutch and English. We are a young Dojo and we are easily accessible for beginners Aikidoka.
The lessons are taught in the style of Morihiro Saito Shihan (Iwama Ryu / Takemusu Aikido). This style emphasized, the exercise of the fundamental principles and a clear distinction between basic and advanced levels of practice and techniques, integration (Riai) of practicing with the empty hand and weapons (wooden sword, staff and knife) and studying Aikido as a martial art (Budo).
Takemusu Aikido Amsterdam is a member of Takemusu Aikido Netherlands and has contact with Dojo's that practise the same style in Holland and abroad through joint training sessions, seminars and examinations.
Lineage.
After the death of the founder Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1968), there are many forms created in aikido. To this day, people set up their own form. All with their own interpretation of aikido.
Takemusu Aikido is a traditional form (also known as Iwama ryu) and is descendant of the founder 's aikido taught in the Iwama Dojo in Japan. Takemusu Aikido can be translated as "inexhaustible source of applied techniques.

Worldwide thousands aikidoka's practice this form. In the Netherlands, this form is not so well known, perhaps known but not practiced. There are currently in the Netherlands 7 Dojo where this is practiced. They communicate with each other and international Dojo in connection by means of joint training.
